Your child cuts out the pieces, works out which ear goes where, and glues a fox together. Then an owl. Then a leaf person, which is the one that gets named and kept.

September is the month everything gets scheduled. The calendar fills up in a week, and then there is a Saturday with nothing on it and nobody knows what to do with it. (I am describing my own house. It happens every year.) This is for that Saturday.

Six of the eight come two ways in the same file. The color version prints and goes straight to the scissors. The black and white version gets colored first. Same download, two sittings instead of one, at about a third of the ink.

The pumpkin and the scarecrow are color only. They are from an earlier set and I kept them in, because a fall bundle without a pumpkin is not a fall bundle.

You do not have to decide what any of it is for. Print one. Do one thing.

What it asks of them

Cutting curves and small shapes. Working out which piece is which. Holding a picture in their head while their hands catch up. It is scissor skills and fine motor work, and it does not look like practice.

The honest part

There is cutting. The owl has the most pieces in the set and the fox ears are small, so for a four year old you are sitting there with the scissors. The acorn and the pumpkin are the two to start with. By six or seven most of them can run the whole thing alone.

And it is not an afternoon. It is fifteen or twenty good minutes, and then another fifteen or twenty the day you print the black and white one. Anyone selling you a whole afternoon has not met a six year old.
